
Health and Safety Policy – General Statement of Intent
As a provider of traffic management services, Roadcone Ltd recognises its duties under current health and safety legislation and is committed to doing all in its power to maintain a safe and healthy working environment. All persons in supervisory roles are informed of their responsibilities to ensure they take all reasonable precautions, to ensure the safety, health and welfare of those that are likely to be affected by the operation of our business.
Roadcone Ltd recognises its duty to make regular assessment of the hazards and risks created in the course of our business, and by doing so, commit to the elimination and/or reduction of these, so far as is reasonably practicable.
We also commit, so far as is reasonably practicable to:
- Meeting all applicable legal and other requirements;
- Consulting with all persons working on our behalf, thereby allowing them to participate in decisions relating to matters affecting their health and safety;
- Providing and maintaining safe plant and equipment;
- Ensuring the safe handling and use of hazardous substances;
- Providing information, instruction, training where necessary for our workforce, taking account of any who do not have English as a first language;
- Ensuring that all workers are competent to do their work, and to give them appropriate training;
- Preventing work related injuries and ill health;
- Pro-actively manage and supervise health and safety at work;
- Ensuring access to competent advice;
- Achieve continual improvement of our health and safety performance and safety management system, and take full advantage of any opportunity that arises as a consequence of our activities;
- Providing the resources required to make this policy and our Health and Safety arrangements effective.
We also recognise our duty to:
- Co-operate and work with other employers when we work at premises or sites under their control to ensure the continued health and safety of all those at work;
- Co-operate and work with other employers and their workers, when their workers come onto our premises or sites to do work for us, to ensure the health and safety of everyone at work;
- Ensure all persons working on our behalf recognise their duties, as laid down in applicable legislation, and take responsible for their own Health and Safety, and that of those who may be affected by their activities or omissions.
We are committed to meeting the requirements of National Highways Sector Scheme NHSS 12D for installation, maintenance and removal of temporary traffic management on rural and urban roads in the following categories:
- Static works;
- Static works plus dual carriageways;
- Static works plus convoy working;
- Static works plus multiphase traffic signals.
We have established a set of objectives to provide direction to the business, and by achieving these, aim to drive improvements throughout the organisation. Roles, responsibilities and accountabilities for achieving this are detailed elsewhere, as are the specific management arrangements required. We achieve this by explaining their duties and setting out our company health and safety policies and procedures, which are made available to every worker employed by us.
Our policy shall be reviewed at least annually and shall be made available to all persons working on our behalf, and other interested parties, via our Quality Management System (QMS) and website.
